We had a ClimateSmart Home Service recently. I was pleased to find out that Brisbane City Council were offering a rebate for the service. We got a couple of free light bulbs and a wireless energy monitor. The first monitor the electrician put in couldn’t pick up our usage as it was so low. The electrician asked me to turn the television on and tried a second one. This time it worked.
The electrician told me how earlier on in the week, he had visited an elderly lady who had her air conditioning turned off. Even though the outside temperature was over 35°C. He asked her to turn the aircon back on, because he could tell from her bill that she usually had it on!
Big M played with the energy monitor for a few days. Our fridge uses 6-8 cents per hour, depending on whether it was powering up or not. The breadmaker was 18 cents. The steamer was 24 cents. The fluoro light in our kitchen was also fairly high.
Highly recommended if you want to reduce your electricity bill.
On the garden front, there’s no news. Big M sprinkled derris dust everywhere and it looks like we have gotten rid of the remaining grasshoppers. We still have lots of black bugs, with an orange strip on the front and lots of orange dots on their belly. We were not sure what they are and if they are goodies or baddies?
